Once we arrived in Anacortes, we really hit the ground running. Like I said before, our “household goods,” as the moving company referred to our stuff, were delayed. They were supposed to be delivered by Friday, July 9, but instead ended up arriving on the next Tuesday. This did give us an opportunity to just enjoy the area and get a feel for the town without having to jump right into unpacking. Thankfully, my stepmom, Denise, was able to stay for a couple of weeks after we arrived to help us get settled in.
Reaghan and I recorded this video the other day to show you around the house. Aside from the strange eye-blinking-me in the intro (WTH?), Reaghan gives you the tour.
Denise also kept Reaghan a few times so Matt and I were able to go a on a date. One of the fun things we did was go to a concert at Chateau Ste. Michelle. It’s a great little winery north of Seattle. They have an awesome summer concert series. Everyone packs a yummy picnic dinner and then hangs out on the lawn until evening.
During the week Denise, Reaghan and I would spend our time unpacking and cleaning. We would take breaks to take walks with Shelby and I would run on the Tommy Thompson trail that is close by. I love that trail. It’s pretty much where I’ve been doing most of my running. It provides a nice wide, safe surface out of the way of traffic. Reaghan rides her bike a long with me most times, so I don’t have to worry about her getting out in the street. Everyone is so friendly, too. I think Shelby has become a trail favorite!
On the weekends, we tried to take a break from unpacking and tour some sites around the area. Of course we took Denise to all the spots on Fidalgo Island like Washington Park and Deception Pass. (Two of my favorite places.) But we also did a road trip East on WA-20 into the Cascade Mountains to Diablo Lake. What a gorgeous trip!
Here are a few pictures from our trip:
The Bible Family in front of the Skagit River. Love the color of blue!
The Skagit River flows all along Highway 20 from the Cascades.
I love bridges. Especially footbridges, even though some scare me to death.
Reaghan under the bridge.
Gorgeous Diablo Lake. It was so windy up there!
After Denise left, we had a few days to prepare for my sister’s arrival. We couldn’t wait to see them! Part 3 will show the TONS of pictures that we took while they were here.

Nice update on the Bible family in Washington. Thanks for reminding us 100 plus degree Kansans of the cool beauty there!
