I listen to The Verge, Channel 87 on XM Radio because it rocks, eh.

Most of you know that I listen to a lot of Top 40, Rap, R&B, etc. when I run. But that’s not really my favorite kind of music. I like it because of the fast beat, catchy tune, etc. You may catch me listening to it in the car here or there, but I really have a pretty varied taste in music. I’ll listen to pretty much anything (except Country).

I grew up listening to music with my dad. Lots of 70’s stuff. Especially on road trips. We always drove places for our family vacations, mostly at night, and I was the one who stayed up with Dad listening to The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Neil Diamond, Crosby, Stills & Nash. In fact, I don’t think there’s been a long road trip that I’ve been on since I was a kid where I haven’t listened to Simon & Garfunkel’s Concert in Central Park. Yeah, I sing along… and know all the words to every song. I could probably start singing the next song before it even comes on and I remember where “Side A” ended and you had to flip the tape over to “Side B.”

I’ve always been a music lover. I was fortunate to live close to Sandstone Amphitheater in Kansas City and went to as many concerts as I could. Remember when you could actually afford to go to a concert? I have to admit that I did like Tiffany in grade school, but we all get a pass now and then, right? In college I was in heaven with all the new Alternative stuff. Saw Dave Matthews before he was big. He opened for Big Head Todd and the Monsters, saw The Reverend Horton Heat. It shouldn’t be much of a surprise that I way love Indie Music now. I love finding fun and relatively obscure bands. The Verge on XM is one of my favorite channels and features unsigned and emerging artists mainly from Canada, but also the US. I also like Alt Nation a lot, and XMU. I also think it’s fun that my younger brother is into the Indie scene. We like to share music with each other. In fact, he is in the band Echoes from Airplanes and one of their songs is on my list below!

I thought I’d share a few of my favorite songs. Some of these are older, some I’ve just discovered, but all are on my list of Songs-I-Can-Listen-To-Over-And-Over-And-Never-Get-Tired-Of List.

I’m happy you were steered in music right with classic 70s! Rock-n-roll never forgets!

Why did my iPhone think I wanted steered instead of started? This phone is aged. I need a fresh new one. :-)

Hooray for the Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel. A lot of my childhood memories involve listening to them.

That West Coast song will forever remind me of TapTap Revolution game. And Echos From Airplanes is known to melt faces.

Your dad has great taste in music. I grew up on the same kind of stuff and still love it; only, it was my mom who was more into Simon & Garfunkel. Dad was all classic rock.

Shannon makes fun of me all the time for being “out of touch” when it comes to music. But, I’m old school…….Grateful Dead and Widespread Panic. Not the popular vote, but it’s mine!

Oh, and to answer your question…….Lord, no, I’ve never cross country skied. That looks like pure torture to me. Downhill is fun. You absolutely have to get it a try!
