And Other Duties Including but Not Limited To

February 17, 2010

Reaghan and I have had fun watching the Olympics so far. I’m sad that we will be living *thisclose* to Vancouver, but are moving out there just a few months too late. I love watching this British Columbia Tourism commercial. I tell Reaghan every time, “Look! We’ll be an hour and a half from there!”

Love it. So beautiful. I really am looking forward to all of that scenery!

Matt took some time last weekend and did some sightseeing with someone from his office. He is so excited about the area. He said they saw tons of American Bald Eagles and visited some cool little towns that I’d love to take pictures of. Here are some photos he’s sent me this week:

Marina on Anacortes

That little fleck is an eagle sitting atop the tree.

Hopefully once I get there and get my new camera lens, I can take very close up pictures of those guys!

In other house news, the house is on the market now. Anyone want to buy it? It went on the market Friday. I have to say, it’s been a struggle the last couple of mornings getting out of the house with everything clean. Sometimes I feel like I just go behind Reaghan and pick up after her all the time.

With Matt being gone I have come to realize some extra duties:

  • Taking out the Trash: Now, we’re marginal at best at getting our trash cans to and from the curb. I’m not sure why this is always such an issue for us. But it is. However, I will say that I’ve been doing pretty good at this. Except for last Monday. Yeah, not so good there. This is definitely a duty I will hand back to Matt.
  • Winding the Grandfather Clock: We have the grandfather clock that my Dad made while my mother was pregnant with me. I love the sound of clocks in the house. That ‘tick, tick, tick’ sound is so soothing to me. I also love the sound of the Westminster Chimes that ours does on the quarter hour. A fond memory of mine is watching my dad wind all our clocks and keeping them on time. My Grandma LaRosh also had lots of clocks in her house. I loved sleeping in her living room on a big pallet of quilts and listening to them at night. I kind of like being the one to take care of the clock now. I think I’ll keep this duty.
  • Managing the Remote: When Matt is home, TV time consists mostly of news, news, more news, Military Channel, NatGeo, Versus and the occasional Sponge Bob show if Reaghan gets her way. (Which is quite often.) I’m not so big on just randomly watching TV. I have “my shows” that I watch every week, but usually if I’m not watching those, I’ll just have my iTunes playing. If I do watch TV that isn’t DVRd it would usually be some random sitcom or Castle reruns.
  • Mornings with Reaghan: Wowza. Any of you with small children out there feel like you are pulling around an anchor in the morning? Mondays and Wednesdays aren’t so bad, as these are the days I go into work later, but Tuesday, Thursday and Friday when I need to leave by 7:20 I have to say are pretty stressful. I liked being able to say, “Gotta go to work! Bye!” and run out the door as fast as I could. We set out the clothes, have breakfast ready to go, pack our lunches the night before… I just don’t know what else we can do to light a fire under that little one.

I’ll be back soon with an update on how my marathon training is going. I get into some crazy miles this training block!

Oh my gosh. School mornings are the worst. John is almost never here for those and he just doesn’t understand how stressful they are. I have two with ADHD and their medicine doesn’t kick in fast enough. I usually feel so much better once I get to work. We earn marbles at our house, one for each morning, afternoon and evening and Colter hasn’t gotten a morning one in almost 2 weeks. Argh!!!

And yes, the remote. That’s one thing I like about John working out of town. If he’s home, it’s the History Channel, Spike, etc. I almost solely watch my DVR shows that are the same ones every week too. What’s Live TV?
