I’ve moved! No, not to Washington yet.

February 1, 2010

I moved my website from iWeb to Wordpress. And thank goodness for the Oklahoma Ice Storm, people, ‘cuz with out 3 snow days off school and a weekend, I would have NEVER – let me say that again – NEVER made this conversion. For months, Shannon has been telling me that I needed to move my blog to Wordpress because iWeb was too limiting. “You can’t display your beautiful photos in their best format on there. You need a blog with wide spaces,” she would say.

I was reluctant. Apple fangirl and all. But Shannon’s offer to set up your Wordpress blog for free got me thinking. And thinking. And then the ice storm hit and I thought. “OK, I really don’t have anything else going on, besides moving 2,200 miles away, training for a marathon and caring for my child alone. I’d love to change my blog over to Wordpress.”

Shannon did the hard parts for me. The more technical parts, I should say. And most of that went pretty smoothly. If you don’t count that GoDaddy really sucks and is slow. After the initial moving of the files we discovered that many of my images that were in the old blog entries did not transfer.  I was stuck with the decision of adding all my photos manually for 150 blog posts, or just doing the most recent entries and moving on from there. I chose to recreate my blog entries from June 2009 forward and leave all the others on my old iWeb website. I’ve put a link to that old site, including all the other pages that were there in the right hand column under “My Links.” The other issue I had was with my domain. I ended up with two domains, kamibible.com and kamibible.me. And as of right now, one is redirecting to the other. Which is OK, not as seamless as I had hoped, but it works for what I do with this blog. If you subscribed to my old website via RSS, you will need to resubscribe again.

After countless hours of work I have to say how excited I am about my new site. I love that I was able to keep some of my favorite design elements from my old blog. Like the Header and the cutesy background paper.

I love that the new blog looks so clean and streamlined. I love that there is a ton of space for my photos. I hope that once we do get to Washington I can fill these spaces up with awesome landscape and nature photos. But what I really, really think is cool is that I have a customized mobile site with my very own Home Screen button. Now my family, Shannon and my handful of other readers can read my blog whenever they want. It’s mainly just the geek factor that makes me so excited about it. That just cracks me up. I am such a dork.

Leave me a comment and let me know what you think of the new digs! Because I’m in love with it.

I love it! So prettiful and now I can check something off my Bucket List. I can see you totally geeking out over all of the WordPress plug-ins just like you do with iPhone apps. The possibilities are endless now. :)

It is great Kam! I must say the loading was much quicker. I always had to wait a bit on your older blog. I am also glad you are able to keep the artwork. Very cool!

Thanks, Emily. I know it did take a long time to load. I’m very happy with how it has all turned out.

Looks great! I am definitely liking the load time more, and it seems to be friendlier with my work computer (PC with IE, ugh).

This is nice! I like the larger photo format and the fact that I can use your website app. will make it much easier to read from my phone. Good “move”!

Your site looks GORGEOUS! Much better. It looks so much more relaxed and easier to read…. and I’m not just saying that because I’m a fan of your designer. :)

I have to subscribe now to see what will come next… And that iphone button is too cool. I totally agree.
