Well, Reaghan and I have made it over a week now on our own. Two single “ish” gals in the Big City. It’s already been an adjustment and I’ve joked that if I have not landed myself in a mental institution by May I should be Sainted. And I *dare* anyone to challenge me in that statement.
We’ve had to make some changes to our schedule. Reaghan used to skate two days a week and dance two days a week, but I didn’t think there was any way I could keep that up in addition to the other things we’re doing. So, we cut back to one day of skating and one ballet class. Something about a margin. Anyway. I think this schedule will be good for us, and will allow me to get my runs in right after work, before I pick her up from school. Most days, anyway.
I’m thinking about all the things I should start packing up and doing a mental play-by-play of how they will go into boxes. I even went a bought some boxes! But… nothing has made it in one yet.
I’m not worried. Once we choose a Realtor, I will have a deadline. I work best with deadlines. Yes, that was me up until 4 a.m. the night before a paper was due. I always got A’s. I rock that procrastination thing!
Matt made it to Anacortes, WA last Saturday and got settled into his apartment. We are so thankful that our dear friend, Jason drove out with him. Those boys did some serious driving! Flagstaff, AZ the first day, Bakersfield, CA the second and Seattle, WA the third. Matt spent the night there with Jason’s dad on Friday before driving the 60 or so miles on to Anacortes. Matt kept us updated via Loopt as they drove.
Matt said he would have never made it without Jason. I joked with him saying he would have been an awful Pioneer on the Oregon Trail. He said he probably would have made it to Pennsylvania and then said “Well, this is where we’re settling!”
His first week at work was great. He loves everyone that he’s met. He’s been sending some pictures of the island this week:
This is a picture of one of the ferries serving the San Juan islands in the Puget Sound.
Anacortes has a large ship building area. When we visited there were two huge ships that dry docked and being rebuilt. One of the residents told us there are sometimes big celebrations when these ships are completed and set out to sea. Sounds fun!
We actually saw this OU Pendant on our first trip to Anacortes back in November. It hangs in a quaint little local pub in historic downtown Anacortes called the Brown Lantern. Great food. Come visit us and we’ll take you there!
So other than shuffling Reaghan around my days are filled with running, or thinking about running. I just completed Week 3 of the OKC Memorial Marathon training. This week was tough because I had several appointments with Realtors and a hair appointment, which kind of interfered with my regular running days. It all worked out in the end. Get a good playlist and you can make it through anything.
Here’s my playlist this week:
Get Buck in Here – DJ Felli Fel
Supermassive Black Hole – Muse
Just Dance – Lady Gaga
F*** You Lucy – Atmoshere (Good Star Wars references.)
Professor Booty – Beastie Boys
Elevator – Flo Rida
The Fallen – Franz Ferdinand
Can’t Believe a Single Word – VHS or Beta
Girls on Trampolines – LUDO
Take Me to the Riot – Stars
Carry Out – Timbaland
TiK ToK – Ke$sha (Yeah, it’s good to run to. You’ll see it again.)
I decided that if I am not going to be able to get all my scheduled runs in, I’ll focus on the tempo run, which is usually my Wednesday run. A tempo run is where you run at a faster pace for a longer period of time (like 7 miles) vs. intervals which are very fast short periods of running (think 400 meters). I’ve mentioned before that I used the McMillan Pace Calculator to determine what times I should shoot for. My goal was an 8:19 to 8:40 mile. Here are what my splits looked like for this run. The first and last miles are for the warm up and cool down. (Click to see larger.) I’m cool with these times. Especially considering I had a cold and several late or restless nights last week.
Some thoughts:
-Why are drivers so rude to runners and cyclists? There are NO SIDEWALKS or bike lanes in Oklahoma people!
-But then I wondered if there *were* sidewalks, would I use them? Probably not. I’m a street runner, Yo!
I finished the week with my long run on Saturday morning and a visit from Kraig, Shannon (that’s Shannon LaRosh for those who know both my Shannons) and their dog Arco. Crazy to think that Saturday’s run of 10 miles is pretty much your longest run when doing a Half Marathon. It’s Week 3… and I’m already on 10! Click the map below to view my Garmin Connect data for that run. So thankful for runHers. What a great bunch of girls!
Here’s a few parting shots of Arco. He was such a nice houseguest!
Theme for the week: We’re all still alive!

Great to see you are keeping yourself busy. This will help the time to go by much more quickly. This has its advantages and disadvantages. I look forward to sharing the west coast with an old (meaning time knowing you, not chronological age) friend.

The shots of Arco have crystalized a vision: I see a big ole dog in your near future: he/she will hunt with Matt, be a loyal late night companion to Kami, and a devoted, huggable playmate for the small, talkative child. You will try to resist the temptation for such a dog at first, but because the small, talkative child will plead incessantly for one, you’ll soon break…and you’ll be very happy you did. The small talkative child knows best, after all.
